5 Essential Egyptian Arabic greetings
5 Essential Egyptian Arabic greetings
1. Sabah el-kheer
This means "Good morning" and what's interesting is that this is not the only way to say Good morning, you can also say (Sabah el-ward, Sabah el-gamaal, Sabah el-fol) the answer is mostly "Sabah el-noor" which means a morning of light.
2. Masaa el-kheer
This one means "Good evening", unlike "Sabah el-kheer" that's the only form Egyptians use it and the answer should also be "Masaa el-noor".
3. Ahlan wa sahlan
That's one of the ways Egyptians say "Hello", it is also used in formal Arabic and the literal meaning of it is "feel like you're with your family and everything should be easy here". Personally, this one is one of my favorite expressions in Arabic.
4. Salamo-alekom
This one literally means "Peace be upon you" and that's how Egyptians say Hello, you use it when you enter a shop, when you meet a friend, or even greeting someone passing by you in the street. The answer to this one will be "w-alekom el-salam".
5. Mas-salama
This one literally means "with safety", and it is used as "Goodbye", a beautiful way to say Goodbye, isn't it?!
